Campus points of interest

The key to your room is the key to an authentic UGA experience. Check out all the exciting points of interest around campus.

The Arch, broad street

Once part of a fence that secured gates to the campus, it is the school’s most iconic landmark.

The Bell Tower, 109 Herty Drive

A landmark since 1913, students continue to ring the bell to mark momentous occasions throughout the year.

Demosthenian Hall/Phi Kappa Hall, North Campus Quad

UGA’s literary and debate societies reside in these buildings, which look much like they did in the mid-1800s, but remain in use as a beacon for lively debate. During the Civil War, Demosthenian Hall was used as a headquarters for Union troops.

Founders Memorial Garden, Lumpkin Street, next to historic Park Hall

Established in 1891, The Founders Memorial Garden commemorates the twelve founders of the American garden club movement and is also dedicated as a memorial garden to those who served in the US Armed Forces. This 2.5-acre award-winning garden houses over 300 species of plants and features the Lumpkin House, the first recorded address on Lumpkin Street.

Moore College/Herty Field, 108 Herty Drive

Herty Field was UGA’s first athletic field and was the site of UGA’s first intercollegiate football game in 1892, when UGA defeated Mercer 50-0. Moore College now houses the Honors Program at UGA.

Old College, Center of North Campus

Built in 1806, it is the oldest building on campus, modeled after Connecticut Hall at Yale (Abraham Baldwin, UGA’s first President, graduated from Yale). A commemorative plaque is located on the north wall, and the Franklin College dean’s office is currently housed here.

Sanford Stadium, 100 Sanford Drive

Home of the Georgia Bulldogs, the stadium seats 92,746 and is the sixth-largest on-campus stadium in the country. It was the site of the 1996 Olympic Soccer Games medal rounds. The famous hedges were removed in 1995 to enlarge the field and were replaced by descendants of the original hedges. The Georgia Bulldogs football team are three-time National Champions, once in 1980, and back-to-back in the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall, 1 Selig Circle

Relive all the glory and reflect on the greatest moment in Georgia sports history at the Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall. This museum houses and celebrates historical
displays of all trophies and memorabilia for all UGA athletic teams. Experience the excitement of the back-to-back National College Football Championship victories! Open for tours during business hours (08.00- 17.00, Monday – Friday).
